Have file on floppy that won't open. Any recovery of a damaged WORD file on a
floppy?

If you want to be able to use your documents, when working within Word, act
as if your floppy drive does not exist! (This applies to CDRW/CDR drives as
well.)
Don't use Word to:
Open a document on a floppy
Print a document on a floppy
Edit a document on a floppy
Save a document to a floppy (not even a copy)

Word regularly trashes documents on floppy drives!

Instead, work on the document using your hard drive. Copy it back and forth
using Windows.

I know that for some with shared computers (libraries, schools) this is a
tough prescription. All I can recommend for that is to use a brand new
formatted disk each time you save and don't do any editing.

What I have seen work in the past (tho I thoroughly agree with everything
Mr. Kenyon has said)...
If you have the ability, run a THOROUGH scandisk and a defrag on the floppy.
Defrag isn't possible on new Winxp machines--only on older (I think Win98).
I have seen this recover documents, tho there was some stuff missing at the
end.

Did you try to force Word to do a recovery of the file?

See
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=826864

And, strange but true, sometimes even if it verges on seldom, you can
get the file to open in WordPerfect, save back to Word format and then
open it in Word. You might have to re-format certain sections of the
document after the completion of opening it in word but at least you
will probably recover most of it.

Good luck.
