Word file sizes increasing without control !!!

Dear Office Developer,

I've been using Word as part of Office 2002 w SP2.
Whenever I insert a picture into the document and edit
it, the size of the file keeps growing. A 300k file
becomes 25MB after a quite a few edits. Thereafter the
application starts failing.

The only fix I know is to create a new document and copy
everything into it. Then I have also recreate all the
document background etc.

I just wish the Office Developers fix the memory
utilization problems making simple word documents bloat
so much.

If this is not fixed in the near future I'm seriously
considering trying out other document editors.

Its pathetic to allow such a big bug be part of an SP2
product which I consider widely used.

best regards,
jose

Hi Jose,

I suspect this isn't a bug. :)

First you should verify the problem isn't due to one of the following
causes for file bloat:

1) Fast Saves (Tools/Options/Save)
2) Preview Picture (File/Properties)
3) Versions (File/Versions) Make sure "Automatically save version on
close" is not turned on
4) Revisions: (Reviewing toolbar)
5) Embedded True Type fonts (Tools/Options/Save)

If the above checks out then please provide the exact steps you are
using. For example what type of picture are you editing? What changes
specifically are you making to the picture, commands you are using,
etc. and we'll go from there. :)

Please post all follow-up questions to the newsgroup. Requests for
assistance by email can not be acknowledged.
