Word files have a tilde infront of them and are greyed out like

I recently installed a new computer with Office 2003 Pro. I have copied all
my documents off the old computer onto the new one...but now all my documents
look like this ~cv.doc When I try to open them is tries to convert them and
I end up with unreadable garbage. I am also using Access 2003 with a database
that can open word templates for my letters. Ie I click on a client and then
click on generate letter, then word is supposed to open with all the details
already in place. Is it a possibility that Access has screwed up Word?? What
can I do to fix this? Many Thanks

Any filename that begins with a tilde is a temporary file, not a document.

Thanks Suzanne, I have sorted the problem and think I am a bit on the stupid
side. They were temporary files and I had failed to scoll right through the
list, had I done this i would have found my files at the bottom of the
page....I didnt realise I had show all files ticked....DUH @ me !!!! I feel
silly now. Thanks anyway Cheers

Glad you found your files. Note that some temp files show even when you have
"Word Documents" or "All Word Documents" selected. Because the owner file
(~$lename.doc) has a .doc extension, you will always see it at the top of
the list when you have a document open.
