Word files in Office for Mac X and Word 2004

I'm considering Office for Mac 2004 Student and Teacher for purchase for my
home Mac but I'm wondering if I will have problems with opening Word
documents at work where we use Office for Mac X. Anyone have experience or
knowledge of this?

No problem at all. The file format is exactly the same from WinWord 98,
MacWord 98, to WinWord 2003 and MacWord 2004. Files are interchangeable with
no converters or anything necessary.

Problems *have* been reported with layout--apparently Word 2004 arranges the
text differently from Word X, so some screenwriters had a major complaint
that the page numbering had increased from Word X to Word 2004. Easy to work
around that if you have access to both.

The next versions--WinWord 2007 and MacOffice 12--will have a different file
format, just FYI.
