word files saved on CDRW drive

If I make a Word 2000 doc (Win 98 operating system) and
save it on the hard drive, then copy the file onto a CDRW
drive, the file will open fine when transfered to my new
XP -office 2003 Word program. If I save the Word 2000 doc
directly to the CDRW using the SAVE AS function, when I
transfer it to the XP machine, I get

"word expereinced an error trying to open this file. Try
these suggestions...... None are relevent...

Any ideas?... I don't want to wireless network this
computer becuase its in my duughter's room and I don't
want to give internet access where I can't supervise.

You cannot not should not save directly to REM media. Always save to your
local hard drive first then copy to the removable media.
