Word files take a very long time to open in Word 2007

I recently migrated all of my Word 2003 files to a new laptop running Word
2007. All of the files take up to 1.5 minutes to open. Eventually they open
and I can add to them and they save properly but it is frustrating waiting
for them to open. Any suggestions? They are not networked files.
