HELP! I am a true novice at Word, and I have a harder time formatting papers for college than writing them. How do I make a cover page for a paper, then move on to the next page to write my paper in the same document? Also, is there a book, or resource online that can help me answer what I know are probably simple questions such as this?
Thank you in advance!

What you want to do is create a "Break" following the front matter on your
cover page. However, there are several ways to proceed - the appropriate
choice depends on a number of variables which are best determined ahead of
time. (IOW, a well finished document is a well planned document:)) Take a
look in the Insert> Break menu & you'll see what I mean - then consult Help
on Section Breaks for further clarification.

You'll definitely find lots of useful information on this site:

.... as well as the various links within it. If you're truly serious you'll
do well to download & review the work by Clive Huggan entitled "Bend Word to
Your Will" which is available from that site as well. (It hasn't been
updated for 2008, but most everything still applies unless it pertains to
macros or VBA - not supported in 2008.) Don't try to read it intently from
start to finish or memorize it - it will serve you best if you merely peruse
the material to become familiar with what it contains & the concepts
offered, then target any specific topic as needed. It's especially
informative in regard to customizing the program before you start putting
documents together as well as its focus on Styles.

Additionally, Word's Help menu will answer many of your questions... And, of
course, don't hesitate to come back here as often as need be:)
