Word for OS X unexpectedly quits

I use Microsoft Office for Mac OS X on a G4 Powerbook running OS 10.4.2
Until today, it has been problem free.

Today, however, Word quits unexpectedly at launch and for no obvious reason.
The other Office applications remain unaffected.

Any clues/suggestions/fixes gratefully received.

Try the standard troubleshooting measures, which you will find listed here:

(hit refresh a few times in Safari, or use a different browser)

Work through them one by one until something helps. If nothing does, post
back. The most common culprit is a corrupted Normal template or damaged
Preferences file.
