Word form document, saved as text, missing data, replaced by ?'s

I have a form that if I save as text replaces my data with "?".
Using Word 2003.

Some of the fileds are drop down some aren't, some of the text comes over
from text fileds some doesn't. None of the drop down data comes over. Date
fields show the data field format vs. the actual data.

If I leave it as a Word doc it's fine, but as a text file I lose 90% of my
data.

Help?Suggestions??
