word format

everytime i log into word there is a paragraph symbol and when i hit space
symbols pop up and when i hit tab arrows pop up symbols pop up for every
action i use how do i get ride of it??

You have turned on formatting marks (nonprinting characters).
Press Ctrl+Shift+8 or click the ¶ icon on the Standard toolbar to turn off
formatting marks. In case of Word 2007, you will find the ¶ icon on the Home
tab of the Ribbon.
