Can i reference an excel column/cell from within a word
drop down list or equivalent? If so, how do I configure
the form field?

Cheers in advance

Not without a lot of programming. You'll need to write a program that gets
the information from Excel and puts it into your formfield options upon
creating/opening your document. I couldn't do this off the top of my head.
What is it that you are trying to accomplish with this task? What is the
usual content of the Excel cell? Which version of Word are you using?

What you are talking about is what Word calls an "online form." Check this
in help. For more about online forms, follow the links at <URL:

Chapman's series of articles. There may be other ways of accomplishing your
goal.

Hope this helps,
