Word freezes in internet explorer when back button is pressed

I often read Word files online when using internet
explorer. Word opens up "embedded" in the browser.
However, when I click the "Back" button, which should
have the effect of closing Word and returning me to the
previous web page, instead, Word and IE freeze. The only
way out of this is to go into task manager and kill
winword.exe, which causes the browser to go back to the
previous page as desired. I am using Word 2002 (part of
Office XP) and Windows XP Professional. Help appreciated!
