Word Freezes when creating a list of tables

Hi,
I have a document with 170 tables (the whole document is
1160 pages). When I create the table of tables, Word just
seems to go for a walk and doesn't come back. (Word 2002
with all the latest service packs).

I used to do exactly the same thing in Word 97 and it
worked just fine (same number of tables, same document
lenght).

Does anyone have an idea of what I should try? It doesn't
make sense to me that Word 2002 introduced such a problem.
