Word Freezes when opened

I have windows me operating system and ms word 2000 SR-1, it came with the
computer with a ms works suite 2001, that included ms works 6.0 and ms word
2000 sr-1. Just recently when I try to open anything on my computer that was
created with word the computer freezes and I have to cntrl + alt + delete to
restart the computer. The freezing happens even with trying to open a new
document in word. I have uninstalled and re-installed word twice and this
did not fix my word program. HELP, I need word for work and my daughter
needs it for school papers. any suggestions on how to fix this.
