Word freezes

I have been using MS Office XP for over a year and a half now and recently (in the last 2 months or so) I have started experiencing some strange problems. I will be working in Word on either a new document or editing an old one and Word will freeze up. If I minimize the screen and then maximize it sometimes it will start working again for a short time before doing it again. However sometimes this does not work at all and I end up having to terminate the program and reopen it, but it will still freeze up from time to time. It is not a long time between freezes, but will happen several times while creating or editing a document. Some actions are almost a promise that it will freeze, like pasting something into the document. Other times just hitting the return key or doing a spell check will cause it. This is becoming very frustrating. I don't have this problem on my laptop, only on the desk top but both are running the same operating systems and occice XP. Please feel free to contact me directly at: (e-mail address removed) if you have any possible answers or more questions

As an FYI I am running Windows 2000, version 5 (build 2195 with service pack 4 installed). I have updated my Windows will all available updates from Microsoft. My Word is from Office XP and is MS Word 2002 and it is also running all available updates from Microsoft. My desk top is running an AMD 1.4g Thunderbird processor with 523,760 bytes of total physical memory. This is the computer I am having problems with. My laptop which is running fine is running an Intel 650 processor with 384,000 bytes of memory and as mentioned before I am running the same Windows 2000 with all up dates and Office XP with all up dates.
