word from Windows

Hi
I have some word files, from windows user that have "pictures" embedded probably JPEG, I was using Office MAC 2004 without any problems. Now when I read into Office 2008 some of the pictures are gone? Except they appear in the Thumbnail view of "Navigation" box down the left hand side?
Does any one have any ideas, I getting frustrated with 2008 already!

If you are in View | Draft, floating graphics will not show up. Switch
to View | Print Layout.

If that doesn't fix it, in Word | Preferences | View, under Show, make
sure Drawings is checked and Image Placeholders is UNchecked.

I don't have any ideas, unfortunately, however I have some faith that
updates will take care of many problems that people are reporting. No
software is ever released in a 100% functioning condition, and Microsoft
is not an exception to this. It may be out of beta, but beta continues
(in a sense) when it gets out into the field.
