Word gives the report error when opening its own file.

Please help!

Q1: After saving a file many times Word will give the REPORT ERROR (which I
send to MS) and then close. Why would it not be able to open its own file?

Q2: Is there an update (or something) that will allow Word to convert
images to JPEG pictures? Pictures are so easy to work with; not unlike those
PNG (chess boards used on the Web) images.

Thankl you,
Wayne

What Word version and OP?

A1: Make sure you are saving the file to your harddisk, not a removeable
media. Word (and other MS apps) don't like being opened/edited/saved in these
medias.
Have you tried Open and Repair?
In the File > Open dialog, there is a downward-pointing arrow on the right
end of the Open button. After choosing the file, click that arrow to get a
small menu. Click "Open and Repair" in that menu.
Also check out:

A2. Word is not very good at doing this, but see here for some possibilities:

The "chessboards" on the Web are usually Interlaced GIFs.

This is for 2003 and prior, maybe different for 2007.
Hope this helps.
