Word gone after 11.3.8 mac office 2004 update?

J

Hi

Can anyone tell me why or help me get back Word 2004 for Mac Office. I
installed the update "Office 2004 for Mac 11.3.8 Update using the
Microsoft AutoUpdate in office.

Word has now completely disappeared. It is not on the launch bar nor
is it in the applications directory where the other office
applications are.

When the update finished I got a successfully completed message so I
don't think the patch failed.

If all else fails I hope reinstalling office will fix the problem but
I would prefer to try and fix it. Is it worth downloading the dmg file
11.3.8 update and applying that?

Thanks

John

Make sure it's not in the Trash. If it is, restore it :)

If it wasn't in the trash, go ahead and re-install from the CD.

Then you will need to re-run the 11.3.5, 11.3.6,7, and 8 patches.

Sorry

After downloading today latest update for Office 2004 on Mac OSX 10.5.2 Word disappeared from the Microsoft Office, it remains with a question mark in the icons list but no reaction at all and when I want to open my Word documents I am told the document is corrugated.
I am abroad for one month and left the Office CD at home. What should I do to recover Word and my documents? Thanks

Hi Sidney -

Can you launch the program by using the actual application icon in the
Applications/Microsoft Office 2008 folder?... By dbl-clicking a document
file icon? Have you tried running Disk Utility - Repair Disk Permissions &
restarting your Mac?

BTW: 11.3.8 isn't the latest update for 2004 - it's followed by 11.3.9,
11.4.0 & 11.4.1, which you should be able to apply via Help> Check for
updates or by launching AutoUpdate directly.

Taz,

part of your info is correct. But part is not.

I'll explain.

The latest and greatest update for OSX.3 series is OSX.3.9.

If you have OSX.3.8 install click on *Software Update* Or go to Apple's
website > support > downloads and look for OSX.3.9 Combo Updater. That
includes all updates including security fixes up to the time X.3.9 came
out. any after, you have to use Software Update to locate and install them.

You can not simply go suddenly from X.3.9 to X.4, X.4.1 or 4.11 just by
the Software Updater. X.4 is a Totally different system you have to
purchase and install. (to make a comparison for PC folks to understand,
would be like going from windows 98 to XP).

Unfortunately on my G4-500 I can't get OSX.4, to install on my internal
Hard Drive on my Desktop. But I can on my FireWire Drive on the same
machine.

You use either Software Update or as described above go to Apple Website
and download the Combo updater this time for X.4.11 for Updates. Oh if
you use the Software update let it install every change. even if it
takes several hours to catch up.

Unlike MS and Adobe, Apple updaters contain all the changes from
previous updates on each newer up date. so if you skip an update so you
don't have to worry about all the changes from the previous update you
skipped; they will be included in installer for the new update. However,
the installer reads your system, reads the components in the update,
compares them and only replace the items changed in order.

Taz,

part of your info is correct. But part is not.

<snip>

But Bob is not talking about *Mac OS* updates, he's talking about *Office
2004*, which can be updated to 11.4.1 for free either through Microsoft
AutoUpdate or by running the installers found on Mactopia.

Napping while you read again, Phillip?:)

The references to "11.x.x" specifically pertained to MS Office updates, not
OS X & the OP clearly stated that the OS X version is 10.5.2 - OS X 10.3.x &
10.4.x were not involved at all.

My apologies if you meant the Office update but the way you had written
sounded like your are talking about Mac OS.

Sorry if I got apples and oranges mixed up .
