word gone?

Hey--I have a great problem that no one I know can fix.....

All of a sudden, I can not access any of my word
documents...it tells me that "the file doesn't have a
program associated with it for performing this action.
Create an association in the Folder Options Control Panel."
Wierd, I know---and if any of you guys are like me, I have
nothing backed up......

Also, when I try to open Word from the start menu, I'm
told, "The windows Installer service could not be
accessed. Contact your support personnel to verify that
the Windows Installer service is properly installed."
I also get this error message when trying to open Access
too....but no other MS Office application.

p.s.... some useful information: A friend and I were
clearing out the computer the other day and I hate to
think we "cleared" something up that was not supposed to
be. I also misplaced that back up CD that came with my
computer for MS office.....Please help if you can=)

Hi Tricia,
See what happens when you go to <Start/Run> and type in
winword.exe and click on OK.

Tricia, just saw your note...along with 10,000 others
wanting help. Did you ever get your Word back up? You
might have to contact MS to see if they have your
purchase on record and can supply you with another back-
up CD. Meanwhile, right click on your flies, and you will
get the option to "open with" a program. You could try
opening them with Notepad or some other text program if
you need to view the contents.
Also I don't know how this news group works; An hour ago
it said it would be "a few minutes" before my reply was
posted. I've posted three, and none have appeared yet.
Could you send me a reply if you get this? Tx.
