After forced shut down of Word, which mentioned "temporarily closing PDF" it
is not back. I have tried to reinstall Acrobat from my disk, all program but
Word still have the icons (and toolbar) to the PDF conversion

It's not clear from your message what the problem is, since your subject
line says the PDF tools are gone, but your message says they're there. On
the chance that they're gone, try this:

Help - About Microsoft Word - Disabled Items.

If the Adobe add-in is listed, click it and choose Enable, and assure Word
that you mean what you say when it second-guesses you.

Does this bring the PDF tools back?

The problem for me what the the "location" was not clear. I looked at help,
nothing but a circular reference. I finally gave up and admitted I was
stumped. A colleage figured out that there was actually a selction "About
Help"

It would have been so much clearer if the instructions would have said to go
to "Help" on the menu bar (I kept using F1) and scroll down four lines. Now
that I would have understood. But all is well now. Thanks
