Word hanging at startup

Hi, we have one user at work where Word hangs (get the word is not responding
message when attempt to do anything) for around 48 seconds whenever a
document is opened, or a new document saved.
This sounds very much like a broken link somewhere, but we cannot find it.
We suspect this problem would occur in all Office programs, this particular
user uses Word most though.
Office 2003 is pushed out through GPO, the users have their documents and
profiles redirected through GPO to the server, allowing them to log on to any
computer to get their "stuff". It is only this one user that experiences this
problem, although we have many other users using identical hardware and
members of the same groups etc. We have not been able to isolate anything
unique about the profile. When she logs on to another computer, the problem
follows her, but remains unique to her profile.
We found the Flash Paper add in on Word was trying to load a non existent
template, Flash paper, and indeed all Macromedia software has been removed
from her computer and all references to the template (tools/templates & add
ins) have been removed. The registry entry for Word data has been deleted and
recreated, the Normal.dot has been renamed and recreated. There are no add
ins starting up.
Another clue perhaps, when trying to remove any of the Macromedia software
when logged on as the user an error popped up giving reference to a folder on
an old decommissioned server, the removal could not be done as the user and
had to be done as Administrator. (possibly unrelated just an old MSI)
The problem still persists.
Any ideas anyone?
Many thanks.
