WORD hanging while typing

Hi all.

I have been pulling my hair out trying to resolve an issue
with Word 2000 and can't seem to figure it out. I have
ONE user that everytime she types in a document, whether
it be new or old, Word hangs the entire system and
she must reboot.

I am not sure when this started exactly but she is running
Windows 2000 (recently updated to SP4), with 224 MB of RAM
(recently upgraded form 96MB) running on a P2 450MHz
system.

I've tried deleting and copying a known good normal.dot
file and I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling from CD.
At one point I thought I had it figured out when I deleted
her user profile and then rebooted to have a new one
created. This situation went away but then reared it's
ugly head again a day or so later.

Again I thought I had it figured out when I determined
that there were numerous 'corrupt' docs in a heavily used
directory. She has not tried opening them, taking the
users word for it, but she has been trying to recreate the
same docs from scratch to no avail.

I'm hoping somebody can help me with this as I am at my
wits end.

Thanks.
