Word Hangs and Shows Hourglass repeatedly About Every 10 Seconds

Word hangs and shows hourglass repeatedly about every 10 seconds. While it
hangs for about 1 second, the display of typed characters are delayed until
after the hourglass disappears.

If you choose a different default printer in Start | Control
Panel | Printers, does the problem persist?
