Word hangs at loading screen

I have previously been on the phone to a Microsoft technician(and am no way
in a position to pay $50 because one program isn't working..) and to a Dell
technician as thats who my laptop is from.

I installed Office XP before christmas. Often Word will open once, but the
next time i go to run it, it will hang at the loading screen and I will have
to ctrl alt delete it. I have reinstalled three times, and completely
uninstalled each time. I have repaired the program on many occasions as well.
Access, Excel, Outloook and Powerpoint all work without a problem but Word
continuously hangs. When it DOES decide to open, it says "Word will now start
in safe mode" and that seems to be the only time it works.. when word decides
it should go into safe mode...

Any advice?? I really need this fixed so I can use it when I start work but
I can't afford to pay for it, particularly when they might not be able to fix
it.

Thanks.. after I posted I went and did a search and tried that, in case it
was my Nortons... it then proceeded to work twice before hanging again *rolls
eyes*
