Word hangs on Paste All.

In Word 2002, when I collect, say, 20 web text clips on the Clipboard
for pasting into an open doc, I click on Paste All and the Application
hangs. At the same time my newly installed ZoneAlarm firewall tells me
that Word is trying to access the Internet. Does Word need to do this
to Paste All? Indeed, does Word ever need to access the net in normal
operation?
Finally, if Word hangs again in this way, can I recover the Clipboard
contents somehow?

Thanks for all suggestions.

Robert.

MS Word does require Internet access for some purposes - for example, if you
want to download clipart from the Microsoft Office website. However, an
Internet connection is not essential, if you are merely trying to paste web
text clips into a Word document. (The same applies to MS Excel).

Word may be "hanging" for the following reason(s):

a) It is waiting for Zone Alarm to permit (or block) access to the
Internet. To get round that problem, instruct Zone Alarm to block internet
access for MS Word.

b) Your downloaded clips have "overloaded" your computer's memory or
processor. Try copying and pasting them one by one. Also try the Edit /
"Paste Special" Option - and select formatted text (RTF) or unformatted
text, as opposed to HTML format.

Incidentally, your computer empties the clipboard, every time you shut down
or re-boot. If the clips have not been deleted from your clipboard, you
could try to paste them into a different application, such as Notepad. With
Notepad, you will lose all formatting. However, once they are in Notepad,
tou should be able to cut and paste (or copy and paste) them into Word.
