word hangs on startup

I am running Word 2004 for mac v.11.1 on a Powerbook G4 OS 10.3.9

The problem I am experincing is when I try to launch word from its
icon, it gets as far as displaying a blank white window and then hangs!

But when I launch word from a word document it starts fine!

Can anyone tell me if there is a solution to this problem and why it is
happening?

Many thanks in advance!

Hi atgo,

This is a bit odd. It's more often the other way around.

Anyway, the solutions for such reproducible problems can usually be found
here: <http://word.mvps.org/MacWordNew/TroubleshootingIndex.htm>
(If using Safari, hit Refresh once or twice; better yet, use another browser
for this site.)

I'd suggest testing the Normal template first.

Hi beth,

I have resolved the problem!

Like most cases it was a case of deleting the preferences! Although I
had tried this before writing to the forum, I had in fact missed one
which was not located within Library/prefrences/microsoft. it was in
fact located just within the /prefrences folder!

Many thanks for the link to the site, which was very good!

Oh, please, share which prefs file! That could be a fix that helps someone
else.

Of course, now that I check, I see all kinds of com.microsoft.... Files in
~/library/prefs. Argh.
