Word hangs when i control click (ctrl-click)

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

in the past couple of days word has started to hang whenever i've tried to ctrl-click, for example to check a word in the dictionary etc. i have to force quit.

tried trashing all the microsoft preferences and resolving font conflicts but it's still happening.

any advice much apprecated. thanks !

Are you using any non-english language for check-spelling or grammar spelling?

Try to remove in your Library/preferences folder any

"language".grammar.profile

file

It solved my problems.

I bet you have a contextual menu item that interferes badly.
Check in:
/Library/Contextual Menu Items
and
~/Library/Contextual Menu Items

still have the problem unfortunately, after trashing the microsoft preferences a couple of times.

can't find any language.grammar.profile.

/Library/Contextual Menu Items is empty

~/Library/Contextual Menu Items contains:-

ToastIt.plugin
SugarSyncCMPlugIn.plugin
GraphicConverterCMI.plugin
DropboxPlugin.plugin

none of these should have changed before word started having problems.

still have the problem unfortunately,

Testing in a new User will quickly tell you if the problem is system wide or
if it¹s your User¹s folder that contains the problem.

Go to System Preferences --> Create a New User in Accounts. Switch to the
New User by logging out/in or use Fast User Switching. Test Office there.

If the problem goes away then there is a problem in your User's folder. If
it exists in the new User then it's at the system level. You'll need to run
the combo updater for Apple and re-install Office.

It's often difficult to track down the problem and it can be very time
consuming. Some users that find the process difficult select to move to the
new User instead.

Only part of the page refers to Entourage specifically. Removing preferences
and caches are general to all Office applications.

after doing a few further tests, i've discovered the problem is a conflict between word and sugarsync.

if sugarsync manager is open when i open word, i have the ctrl-click hang. if i open word first then it's ok, even if i then open sugarsync.

i'm not sure what to do to fic it though, beyond taking SS out of log in items and rememebering to open it after word. (problematic for back up software!). i will contact SS support though.
