Word hangs when opening document created from Template

Hi - I am having a problem with multiple users
experiencing long delays when opening a Word 2000
document that has been created using a global template.
If it is opened at the site that it was created, there
are no problems. But if the document is then sent to
other users at other sites across the WAN, these
recipients experience long delays. Local installs are
supposed to point to local copies of the template
directory, on a local share.

Windows 2000 servers, Windows XP workstations.

ANy help would be greatly appreciated.
