Word has a mind of its own

I have Windows 98. A friend with Word 2000 sent me a Word
document. She typed it in English, but when I received
and opened it, it was in "Refspecialty" font. It's like
Hieroglyphics. There is no way I can change it to
English....or is there? I would appreciate any help.
Thanks!

Tony,

Your version of Windows isn't as relevant as your version
of Word. But unless you're using Word 95 or earlier, you
should be able to read most docs created in Word 2000.

Having a document show up entirely in Refspecialty isn't
something I've ever seen. Assuming you've tried
hanging the font to something normal (CTRL+A, CTRL+D,
pick a regular font, click OK), the next thing I'd try
is opening it WordPad. If that does nothing, go back
to Word and click File->Open, then browse to the file
but before you click the Open button, change the 'Files
of Type' box to read "Recover Text From Any File."
It's a long shot but it may help. (Note: That setting
is 'sticky,' so un-set it afterward regardless of whether
it helps or not.
