Word has Critical error when opening from Internet

After downloading IE7 I started developing an issue with MS Office. When I
try to open a word document link from the Internet, MS Word opens. However as
soon as I try to save or close the file I recieve an error message that
simply says that Word had a problem and must close. Under details it says
that the error is due to winword.exe.

Have you tried saving the document to your HD and then opening it from
there?

Yes I have and that works. But I am trying to figure out why I get the error
messages and how to fix the issue.
