For Info...
Running Word XP/Word 2002 SP3 on Vista HP SP1 (fully patched except for a
pending ActiveX killbits roll-up... don't ask!)
Every time I opened - either through VBA or the Word UI - a text document
(.txt, whether "old" or newly created for test purposes, in various
locations) I received the message "Microsoft Word has Stopped Working".
Review of installed updates since I last opened a txt document suggested
KB933399 might be the cause (as it aparently replaced various file
converters). HTML document opening was not affected, which suggests the
"bug" is in the text document converter only.
Uninstalling KB933399 resolved the problem.
MS please take note: there's something wrong with this security update and
it needs to be reissued (though I have to say I couldn't find anyone else
complaining of this problem, it wasn't in the end terribly obscure)
Hope this info saves someone else the same aggravation.
