Word has suddenly quit bold/ital/underscore an entire word with b.

I used to one-stroke (i.e. Cntrl/B for bold) an entire single word in my
documents. Now the Bold activates, but does not bold my word unless I select
it also. The feature is gone for Italics and underscore too. Will only
apply to selected text. What happened? How can i fix?

To enable this, you have to check the box for "When selecting, automatically
select entire word" on the Edit tab of Tools | Options. You may find the
cure is worse than the problem, though. You can easily select an entire word
by double-clicking.
