Word HTML and folders -- frustrating!!! :(

A

Alex

Whenever I move an HTML file that I created in Word 2000, it drags an
accompanying graphics folder and then renames the links in my document.
(not good during a deadline!!!!).

I get around the problem by renaming the folder, but what's tracking the
folder? it's not inside the Word or HTML document. Is there some setting that
I can use to turn this feature off?

Hi Alex,

You can turn off the supporting file folder option
through Tools=>Options=>General=>[Web Options]=>Files
but that will place all of the supporting graphics in
the same folder as the .HTM file. If you're using
My Documents for file storage things can get cluttered.

The folder name is the name of your .HTM file with
'_files' added on the end. Support files are listed in
the filelist.xml file that Word creates along with the .HTM file
and Word does have a <Link ...> to the folder in the .HTM
source code.

Word does not retain the original names of graphics files it
uses or creates when it saves the .HTM file. If you resize
a graphic in Word that you inserted you may end up with more
than one copy, the original and the resized one.

For Word 2000 you may want to look at saving in 'Compact HTML'
using the Office 2000 Add-in from http://office.microsoft.com/downloads
