Word - Importing of fonts into Word 2004:Mac

C

Carlos Olles

I am currently using Office 2003 at work on a PC. Some of the fonts used
(e.g. Swiss II) are not listed or shown in Office 2004:Mac (I have an iMac
G5 at home office).

Word does not replace the font on document but displays it with an alternate
font (Times New Roman).

Is there a way of importing font files (e.g. Swiss II) into Word 2004:Mac so
that they are recognised and displayed on the Mac. I am concerned that
compatibility issues between PC Word and Mac Word will cause document
problems?

Hi Carlos -

If it is an OpenType font it should be usable cross-platform. Otherwise you
will have to obtain the Mac version of the font... Which still may not
precisely correspond to the PC version.

Also, I believe that in PC Word the user can imbed the font.

BTW - In the docs where Font substitution takes place you can go to
WordMenu>Preferences>Compatibility, click the Font Substitution button and
select a different substitute.

Hi Carlos,

I expect you'll get a better answer from someone who's more knowledgeable
about fonts, but I would suggest just trying it! I'm not familiar with the
Swiss II font, but try installing it on the iMac in the Home/Library/Fonts
folder and see if it works with a sample document.
