Word in Office XP - Insufficient Memory

I have recently upgraded from Office 97 to Office XP.
I successfully created Adobe Acrobat PDF's with 97 but noe
when I wish to convert with Word XP I constantly get the
message 'Word has insufficient memory. You will not be
able to undo this action once it is completed. Do you wish
to continue?
The task will complete evenutally after replying 'Yes' a
number of times.
I am running Windows ME with 256 Mb RAM
