Word in Office XP. numbering tickets

Am trying to print tickets for a hih school event with 6 or
8 tickets per letter-sized page. Each ticket needs to
carry a unique but consectutive number [1,2,3,4,5...700].
Did it some years ago using mail merge. My memory must be
bad because I have not found how to do it with Office XP.

Can someone point me to a knowledge article or other source
for the step needed to do it rught? Another method?

Thank you!!! This should show me what I was doing wrong
when the numbers would not progress on a merge from an
Excel data source,
