Word in Tiger glitch...

Minor, but annoying. When I start up Word, the blank document window
fills the entire vertical dimension of the screen, and is not "aware"
of the toolbar across the top, so the top of the window starts out
underneath the toolbar. You have to manually resize it smaller and
then move it down. Happens each and every time you create a new blank
document.

Sounds like your toolbar isn't fully docked: Try moving it with the move
handle until it "snaps" into place. If you dock it and want to lock the
toolbar(s) into place, see

Lock your toobars to prevent them from becoming undocked

Holy cow -- that did the trick. I had never had the problem before and
don't recall moving the toolbar lately. It looks like it's in the same
place, but it snapped and now all is right with the world.

Thanx!
