Word initially not finding Proofing tool. Now it doesn't proof at

I used to have a the same symptoms that several people have posted about word
complaining over missing proofing tools. I fiddled around with the settings
mentioned (Setting Language, resetting the dictionary). Now I do not get any
error messages whatsoever, but Word thinks everything is OK, regardless of
language.
