Word is a mess

I have office XP professional.
After doing a system restore to correct a problem,I am
unable to receive updates to my Office via internet
Microsoft site.

I am being told that the Windows Installer patch files
from previously updates are missing.

My templates have also quit working.
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. I am
taking classes online and need my WORD to work.
My restore option does not work now as well.

Hi Paul,

First obtain the following utility to zap the Windows Installer entry
in the Registry which is looking for the missing *.msi file:

MS Installer Cleanup utility for Office 2002:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=290301

When you run the utility remove only the reference to Office. Once
that is complete then you'll need to reinstall Office to point the
Windows Installer to your installation CD.

Once that is complete and you still encounter problems let us know and
we'll go from there.
