Word is trying to Update table of contents upon opening a file

Kevin

I'm trying to disable Word from attempting to update
table of contents upon opening a table of contents file.
How do you do this (so you won't be asked and no update
is attempted)?

Thanks,

Kevin

I found my answer by highlighting the entire TOC and
using the control shift F9 keys at the same time. Now, I
have text copy that won't change. YEA!

Note that unlinking the table of contents also means that you
can't update it if you reorganize your document or if you open it
on a computer with a different printer installed.

Additional comment: In order to temporarily prevent a
table of contents, or any field, from updating, you can
use CTRL+F11 to lock it; when you want to start using it
again, simply use CTRL+SHIFT+F11 to unlock.
