I am having the exact problem you mention herein, with my laptop and my USB
drive. The problem started when I copied a MSWord Template Doc and saved it
as a regular Word doc. I also wonder whether, a document that I started at
work (using Word on my employer's network), has anything to do with it.
You should never save a document to or from a REM drive. Always copy to/from
the REM drive to your local HDD.
Also, you cannot save a template (.dot) as a document (.doc). Once a
template, always a template. You may have changed the extension from dot to
doc, but the internal structure of the file is still a template and always
will be a template. You need to install the template into your template
folder and then in Word use File, New and open a document from the template.
It doesn't seem to differentiate. It has the same problem when I use the hard
drive on the computer (Acer Travelmate 2301 WLCi), my jump drive or an
external hard drive. The capacity on my hard drive is very low, less than
10%, and I have wondered if that affected the operation of the program itself.
If I work in WordPad I do not encounter this problem.
The failure to save occurs after I have been working on a document and save
it about the third or fourth time in order not to lose what I have worked on.
Check in Tools, Options, Save tab to make sure that FastSaves is disabled.
