"word" keeps freezing up

A

Ann Cowden

I use 10.3.9 OS and Microsoft office 2004 and my updates are complete.
After working in Word for only a few moments, I get the spinning beach ball
that will not stop and have to shut down or turn computer off.
Any advice on how to fixt this?

"word" keeps freezing upAs long as Word launches OK this suggests to me that
there is a problem with the OS. The first thing I would try is runnining
Disk Utility - Repair Disk Permissions. If that doesn't clear it up, post
back for some other troubleshooting suggestions.

BTW - You probably don't have to actually shut down when something like this
happens. OS X provides a command in the Apple Menu to Force Quit a problem
application. In some cases it may be necessary to switch from the app's
window (Option+Tab to the Finder or another open window) in order for the
Force Quit command to be selectable.

Re: "word" keeps freezing upYou'll find Disk Utility in your
Applications/Utilities folder. Once you launch it go to the First Aid page,
click on your hard drive in the left column, then click the Repair Disk
Permissions button on the right. This is something that should be done
before & after any OS X updates as well as after any software installations
and is also one of the first steps in resolving performance issues.
