WORD keeps reverting to Default settings

I have recently encountered a new problem.
I am running WORD 2002 on Windows XP.
I prefer that WORD not do any formatting of my documents; I much prefer
to "tab and "bullet" manually. Recently each time I open a new blank
page (or open a new copy of WORD - I'm not sure), some but not all of my
settings have reverted to default. Specifically, where I have turned
off all AutoCorrect & AutoFormat and Format > Bullets and Numbering,
they seem to turn back on by themselves.

Does anyone know how I can keep them off?

I prefer No autoformat, NO autocorrect, and NO automatic bullets &
numbering.
