Word keeps shutting down

Recently when I've tried to open up my word application I get as far as the
opening blank page then I get a message that word encountered an error and
needs to close. I've run all required updates...i've uninstalled and
reinstalled word...i've run anti-virus etc. I have microsoft word 2000 any
suggestions?
