Word keeps shutting down.

Several times in the same document, Word will stop working. The file I am
working on is recovered with either internal data integrity error or style
errors. There are many, many temporary files also being created but not
closed (eg. ~WRL1234.tmp) each time this happens. An error report is created
and I send it on to MS.

When closing Word a message stating the Normal file exists; do I want to
save Normal appears. Clicking no bring me to the same message again. Clicking
yes saves Normal.

These problem has come and gone through the years; usually, whenever there
is a Word update, the problem either begins again or ceases for a while.
Modifying normal.dot doesn't seem to help the situation either way.

Any idea on what is causing this, how to stop it or am I just nuts?

Upon reading my message, I see I neglected to include some important
information. I am working in Word 2003 and use the XP operating system.
