Word locking up

I'm running Windows XP home with Office 2000. All other programs appear to
work, But I can't open any old word documents or start a new. The system
opens and locks and error. The system was working fine before. I tried to
repair and reinstall word from disk and computor file its says it's
completed successfully but I still the same problem. I ran virus scans and
systems tools and still the same problem.
