Word locks up everytime I start it

Hello all. For some reason, recently, when I start my word it loads just
fine, and it can open documents just fine, but when it starts after about a
second, all of the main command buttons go opaque and become unusable, and
any kind of editing is impossible, even if it's a new document. i ran
virusscan, no problem there. i even dug out my old disk, unisntalled office
2k3, restarted, and reinstalled. i still have the same problem. any ideas??

Could be because you have not activated your Word/Office
software, or maybe because you have an expired trial version of
Office 2003. What happens if you start Word and click on Help |
Activate Product? If you are already activated, a dialog box
saying so will appear. If you are not activated, the Activation
Wizard will start. If you have an expired trial version, a
dialog box will prompt you to enter a valid product key or
purchase a key online.
