I've been working on a number of macros in my Normal.dot
template - for some time. The other day I tried to access
the Normal macro project in the Visual Basic editor, and I
got the message "Project is unviewable".

I had been looking at using digital signatures for my
macros, and also at writing macros which could identify
the macros associated with a document. I had got as far as
setting the "Trust Access to Visual Basic Project" setting
in the Word security settings, but hadn't got much further
than that - I was trying to list the macros in the
document, and hadn't done anything at all which would
alter any macros.

I had not changed any other settings at all, and I had not
locked the macro project for viewing. Now I cannot view
the macro project, nor can I copy it using the Organizer.
I cannot access any of the macros using the Edit button in
the Macros dialog.

How can I open the macro project?

Not sure how this relates to your situation, but the message usually refers
to a project that's in a file (such as an add-in) that is not currently
open. (Word makes a distinction between loading an add-in and explicitly
opening it.)

In you main Word window, check the Tools > Templates and Add-ins dialog. If
there are any files listed under Global Templates and Add-Ins, open them.
Now see if your code project can be opened.
