Word macro

I have a normal.dot file that used to work fine.
I had a problem on my pc and had to reinstall office 2003 Professional.
I copied the normal.dot back from a backup and the menu in the Word toolbar
shows my customised version OK.
However, when I try and run the macros nothing happens.
Can any one suggest why this may be the case - the security settings are set
to low already.
Am pulling my hair out on this as I have a lot of macros used to automate
certain editting tasks.

And if you recreate one of the customized toolbar buttons that calls one of
those macros, does that work?
