Word mail merge - different fonts

T

Tony

I have a master document which I'm using basic mail
merge. I built the source file and defined the variables
in the master document. When I merge the document, the
variable text prints at a larger font than the default
text in the master document. In other words, the default
text is Arial 10 font and the text of the substituted
data variable prints at Arial 12.

How can I change the variable font to be consistent with
the rest of the master document?

Thanks very much.

Are the fonts the same in both your document and the source file?

Does changing the font in your source file cause a corresponding change for
your data items in your merged document?

Use a \*charformat switch on the field.

Yes, the fonts are the same. I haven't changed the User
Sources File defintions in any way. I highlight the
variable within the master document and verify that it
has the same font and size as the surrounding text.

When I change the font for the default text in the master
document "across the board" for the entire document, the
variable substituted text also changes, but not to the
same font as the default text. So, if the default text
was changed to Arial 8, the variable substituted text
would print at Arial 10

Hi Graham,
Where would I make that change in the field? I'm not a
power user of mail merge yet.

Select the field and press ALT+F9
You will see something like
{Mergefield Fieldname}
or maybe
{Mergefield Fieldname \*mergeformat}
change the mergeformat switch to charformat
or add the charformat switch to the first example.
Press F9 to update and if necessary ALT+F9 to redisplay the content.
